I'm Still Grinning . . .

SPOILER ALERT!!
This blog post contains nothing about art quilting!  It is simply a vehicle for me to share my latest adventure with all of you, one which left me giddy with delight.

Our son, Sean, is a columnist with the New York Daily News, and my Mother's Day gift this year was a two-day visit to the city, where I had the opportunity to watch him at work (interviewing celebrities) and to meet some of New York's glitterati at the same time.  On Thursday evening, we attended a cocktail party at the apartment of actress Stephanie March (from "Law and Order: SVU"), where model/actress Brooke Shields was the guest of honor.  (I can't believe I'm actually writing this!!)

Stephanie March (and me, grinning wildly)

On Friday, Sean took me as his guest (poor kid) to the Drama League Awards Luncheon at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, where Sir Elton John received the award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre.  When Sean introduced me as his mother, I believe Sir Elton said, "Your mum?  How lovely!" and kissed me on both cheeks (I do remember having the presence of mind to address him as "Sir Elton," but what I may have said after that is a bit of a blur, because I was relatively speechless).

Sir Elton John and Sean

There were so many wonderful actors and actresses there that I found myself spinning my head from one direction to another, much like a kid in a candy store.

Here's David Hyde Pierce (from "Frasier") and me,
grinning wildly . . .

. . . and this is Allison Janney (from "The West Wing" and the movie, "Juno") and me, grinning wildly . . .

. . . and here's Geoffrey Rush (from "Pirates of the Caribbean") -- and me, grinning wi . . . . well, you get the idea.

I shook hands with John Lithgow and told Marcia Gay Harden how much I admired her work (and her dress, which was absolutely gorgeous) and floated through the event in a star-struck haze (and grinning wildly).  I never imagined that I would ever know anyone in my life who interviewed  the rich and famous for a living, let alone that I'd be related to him.

It had to be the best Mother's Day present ever -- thank you, Sean.

And thanks to all of you who read and comment on my blog, and for indulging me as I've shared my fairy tale adventure with you.  I'm always grateful.

OMG...how lucky you are!! What a fun, star-studded evening. I love all of those actors. Did you know that Stephanie March is Bobby Flay's wife? You looked GREAT, BTW and your "wild grin" is beautiful. Are you still grinning? :))

It's interesting to hear what someone does when they're not in their studio creating. It adds perspective to the artist as a person. Your posts are great fun to read. I'm grinning because you obviously had such a good time!

How awesome of a gift was this! I'm quite jealous of everyone you got to meet! Someone already beat me to the point that Bobby Flay is Stephanie's husband... did he do any cooking there? And pleeeaassseee let me know next time you're in the city, I'd love to even grab a quick coffee with you!
